Tanks in the Community
CAOAC is proud to promote Clubs across Canada who set up and maintain fish tanks in the community.
The benefit of Public Aquariums:

Start with one manageable aquarium

Kitchener-Waterloo Aquarium Society (KWAS)
Volunteers from KWAS maintain two aquariums at The Museum in downtown Kitchener.

There are two 125-gallon aquariums that are six feet long
-
One aquarium has fantail goldfish, the other has swordtails
-
Both have a Plecostomus
-
canistersFiltration is provided by Eheim 2217
-
Lighting is provided by programmed LED lights that cycle up and down slowly to simulate the sun

Museum staff do the daily feeding
-
KWAS volunteers come in once a month to do a partial water change and clean the glass
The aquariums are located in the main hall of the museum where many events such as Cosplay,
Food Festivals and other gatherings take place. This gives the fish keeping hobby a wide exposure.
This is especially true on school PD days when extra programmes are run for children to keep them busy!
St. Catharines and Area Aquarium Society
St. Catharines and Area Aquarium Society has maintained the aquarium at the St. Catharines public library since 1998.
They also maintain an aquarium at the Welland public library and are in the process of installing another tank at the St. Catharines Public Library branch located in the Pen Centre shopping mall.
