AFRICAN RIFT
LAKE CICHLID BASIC MERIT AWARD
To be given to hobbyists who have advanced well beyond the
novice stage. The following requirements will be used by the
Awards Committee as a basis for selection of applicants.
1) Any
application should be made by or countersigned by the executive
body of an aquarist club or group.
2) The
applicant must have experience and a good working knowledge in
the care and maintenance of African rift lake cichlids.
3) The
applicant must be successful in spawning at least twelve (12)
species of African rift lake cichlids and raise a reasonable
number* of young to eight (8) weeks.
AFRICAN RIFT LAKE CICHLID
INTERMEDIATE MERIT AWARD
To be given to hobbyists who have advanced to a high level of
achievement with constant success in the maintenance, breeding,
and raising of African rift lake cichlids. The following
requirements will be used by the Awards Committee as a basis for
the selection of
applicants.
1) It
is mandatory that the applicant be a holder of the African Rift
Lake Cichlid Basic Merit certificate.
2) All
applicants should be made by or countersigned by the executive
body of an aquarist club or group. Applications will be
qualified and/or verified and/or visited by the regional
representative.
3) The
applicant must have a consistent record of successful spawning
and raising of good quality African rift lake cichlids.
4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning thirty-six (36) species
of African rift lake cichlids and must include at least ten (10)
fish from class B, six (6) fish from class C, and at least one
(1) from class D and raise a reasonable number* of young to
eight (8) weeks. (See page 8207 for list of classes)
AFRICAN RIFT LAKE CICHLID MERIT
AWARD
To be given to hobbyists who have reached a more advanced level
of achievement with consistent success in the maintenance,
breeding, and raising of African rift lake cichlids. The
following requirements will be used by the Awards Committee as a
basis for the selection of applicants.
1) It
is mandatory that the applicant be a holder of the African Rift
Lake Cichlid Intermediate Merit certificate.
2) All
applications should be made by or countersigned by the executive
body of an aquarist club or group. Applications will be
qualified and/or verified and/or visited by the regional
representative.
3) The
applicant must have a consistent record of successful spawning
and raising of good quality African rift lake cichlids.
4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning fifty (50) species of
African rift lake cichlids and must include at least twelve (12)
fish from class C and four (4) fish from class D and raise a
reasonable number* of young to eight (8) weeks. (See pages 8207
for list of classes)
AFRICAN RIFT LAKE CICHLID SENIOR
MERIT AWARD
To be given to hobbyists who have advanced to the highest level
of outstanding achievement in the maintenance, breeding, and
raising of African rift lake cichlids. The following will serve
to clarify the standards required by the Awards Committee before
this award will be made.
1) The
African Rift Lake Cichlid Senior Merit Award will be awarded
only to those hobbyists who in the opinion of the Awards
Committee have reached a most outstanding level of achievement.
2)
Applicants must be nominated by the executive body of an
aquarist club or group or by a member of the Awards Committee.
3) The
applicant must already be a holder of the African Rift Lake
Cichlid Merit Award certificate.
4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning seventy-five (75) fish.
It must include fourteen (14) fish from class C and seven (7)
fish from class D and raise a reasonable number* of young to
eight (8) weeks. (See page 8207 for list of classes)
Note - Since the term “a reasonable
number” is almost impossible to define, the applicant should
attempt to raise a quantity of fry that approaches production
capability of the species in question.

CHARACIN

to at least 8 weeks.
CHARACIN INTERMEDIATE MERIT AWARD
To be given to hobbyists who have advanced to a high level of
achievement with constant success in the maintenance, breeding,
and raising of characins. The following requirements will be
used by the awards committee as a basis for the selection of
applicants.
1) It
is mandatory that the applicant be a holder of the Characin
Basic Merit Award Certificate.
2) All
applications should be made by or countersigned by the executive
body of an aquarist club or group. Applications may be qualified
and/or verified and/or visited by the regional representative.
3) The
applicant must have a consistent record of successful spawning
and raising of characins.
4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning at least fifteen (15)
different species of characins and raising a reasonable number*
of young to 8 weeks.
CHARACIN MERIT AWARD
To be given to a hobbyist who has reached a more advanced level
of achievement with consistent success in the maintenance,
breeding, and raising of characins. The following requirements
will be used by the awards committee as a basis for the
selection of applicants.

Intermediate Merit Award certificate.

body of an aquarist club or group. Applications may be qualified
and/or verified and/or visited by the regional representative.

4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning at least twenty-five
(25) different species and raising a reasonable number* of young
to eight (8) weeks.
5) The
species spawned must include at least one (1) target fish. (See
Characin Target Fish, Page 8180).
CHARACIN SENIOR MERIT AWARD
To be given to hobbyists who have advanced to the highest level
of outstanding achievement in the maintenance, breeding, and
raising of characins. The following will serve to clarify the
standards required by the awards committee before this award
will be made.
1) The
Characin Senior Merit Award will be awarded only to those
hobbyists who, in the opinion of the Awards Committee, have
reached a most outstanding level of achievement.
2)
Applicants must be nominated by the executive body of an
aquarist club or group or by a member of the Awards Committee.
3) The
applicant must already be a holder of the Characin Merit Award
Certificate.
4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning at least forty (40)
different species and raising a reasonable number* of young to
at least eight weeks.
5) The
species spawned must include at least five (5) target fish. (See
Characin Target Fish, Page 8180).
Note: Since the term “a reasonable
number” is almost impossible to define, the applicant should
attempt to raise a quantity of fry that approaches production
capability of the species in question.

KILLIFISH

achievement with constant success in the maintenance, breeding,
and raising of killifish. The following requirements will be
used by the Awards Committee as a basis for the selection of
applicants.

is mandatory that the applicant be a holder of the Killifish
Basic Merit Award certificate.
2) All
applicants should be made by or countersigned by the executive
body of an aquarist club or group. Applications will be
qualified and/or verified and/or visited by the regional
representative.
3) The
applicant must have a consistent record of successful spawning
and raising of good quality killifish.
4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning twenty (20) species of
killifish from at least two (2) separate classes and raising "a
reasonable number"* of young to eight (8) weeks. (See page 8157
for list of classes)

of achievement with consistent success in the maintenance,
breeding, and raising of killifish. The following requirements
will be used by the Awards Committee as a basis for the
selection of applicants.

4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning fifty (50) species from
at least four (4) separate classes and raising a reasonable

KILLIFISH SENIOR MERIT AWARD

Killifish Senior Merit Award will be awarded only to those
hobbyists who in the opinion of the Awards Committee have
reached a most outstanding level of achievement.
2)
Applicants must be nominated by the executive body of an

3) The
applicant must already be a holder of the Killifish Merit Award
certificate.
4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning one hundred (100)
species from at least (6) six separate classes and raising "a
reasonable number" of young to eight (8) weeks. (See page 8157
for list of classes).
Note - Since the term “a reasonable
number” is almost impossible to define, the applicant should
attempt to raise a quantity of fry that approaches production
capability of the species in question.

LIVEBEARER
BASIC MERIT AWARD

Awards Committee as a basis for selection of applicants.

2) The
applicant must have experience and a good working knowledge in
the care and maintenance of livebearers.
3) The
applicant must be successful in spawning at least twelve (12)
species of livebearers and raise a reasonable number* of young
to eight (8) weeks.
LIVEBEARER INTERMEDIATE MERIT AWARD
To be given to hobbyists who have advanced to a high level of
achievement with constant success in the maintenance, breeding,
and raising of livebearers. The following requirements will be
used by the Awards Committee as a basis for the selection of
applicants.
1) It
is mandatory that the applicant be a holder of the Livebearer
Basic Merit Award Certificate.
2) All
applications should be made by or countersigned by the executive
body of an aquarist club or group. Applications will be
qualified and/or verified and/or visited by the regional
representative.
3) The
applicant must have a consistent record of successful spawning
and raising good quality livebearers.
4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning twenty-five (25)
species of livebearers from at least two families with no more
than eighteen (18) from any family and raising a reasonable
number* of young to eight (8) weeks.
LIVEBEARER MERIT AWARD
To be given to hobbyists who have reached a more advanced level
of achievement with consistent success in the maintenance,
breeding and raising of livebearers. The following requirements
will be used by the Awards Committee as a basis for the
selection of applicants.
1) It
is mandatory that the applicant be a holder of the Livebearer
Intermediate Merit Award certificate.
2) All
applications should be made by or countersigned by the executive
body of an aquarist club or group. Applications will be
qualified and or verified by the regional representative.
3) The
applicant must have a consistent record of successful spawning
and raising good quality livebearers.
4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning fifty (50) species from
at least three families with no more than thirty-five (35) from
any family and raising a reasonable number* of young to
eight (8) weeks.
5) The
applicant must include two (2) target fish. (See Target Fish
Page 8257)
LIVEBEARER SENIOR MERIT AWARD
To be given to hobbyists who have advanced to the highest level
of outstanding achievement in the maintenance, breeding, and
raising of livebearers. The following will serve to clarify the
standards required by the Awards Committee before this award
will be made.
1) The
Livebearer Senior Merit Award will be awarded only to those
hobbyists who in the opinion of the Awards Committee have
reached a most outstanding level of achievement.
2)
Applicants must be nominated by the executive body of an
aquarist club or group or by a member of the Awards Committee.
3) The
applicant must already be a holder of the Livebearer Merit Award
certificate.
4) The
applicant must be successful in spawning seventy-five (75)
species from at least four families with no more than sixty (60)
from any family and raising a reasonable number* of young to
eight (8) weeks.
5) The
applicant must include at least five (5) target fish. (See
Target Fish Page 8257).

attempt to raise a quantity of fry that approaches production
capability of the species in question.
