Awards Introduction
Each year CAOAC presents awards
for achievement and service at it’s Annual Awards Presentation,
usually held in May, at the CAOAC Convention. There are three types
of awards.
Achievement Awards - Recognition Awards - Competition Awards
Achievement Awards and Recognition Awards are administered by the
CAOAC Awards Committee. Competition Awards are administered by the
CAOAC Open Show & Rules co-ordinating Committee.
Awards Committee
In order to obtain representation and input from all clubs or
societies, CAOAC is currently divided into regions for purposes of
the Awards Committee. Each region must appoint or vote on one or
more individual's from within that region to act as their
representative on the Awards Committee. If a region cannot agree on
a choice, the Awards Committee Chairman may appoint one. This
individual should be able to recognise the interests of all the
clubs within his or her region. The name, address and, telephone
number of your Regional Representative can be found on the REGIONS
page. It is normal that the Awards Committee meets at least twice a
year.
All applications for the CAOAC Authors Award and the CAOAC Advanced
Authors Award MUST be in the hands of the Awards Committee no
later than the December CAOAC General meeting. This deadline has
been created so that the applicants articles can be organized,
duplicated, and
passed around to each Regional Representative for evaluation.
All other applications for awards MUST be in the hands of the
Awards Committee no later than the February CAOAC General meeting,
unless otherwise specified. Applications should be given to or
mailed to your clubs Regional Representative.
These deadlines are required in order to give the Awards Committee
enough time to examine and evaluate each application before the
Awards Committee meeting.
All individuals submitting applications for awards are encouraged to
do so throughout the year rather than on the deadline. Past
experience has shown that insufficient time was available to verify
certain information on the application before the Awards Committee
met. As a result some applications were rejected where the applicant
may well have been qualified.
Application forms are available in your Club Society’s Information
Binder (you can photocopy the form for your use). If none is
available, you can obtain copies from anyone on the Awards
Committee. Please read the “RULES”
and the “HOW
TO APPLY” pages. It is a good idea
to retain a copy of the application for future reference in applying
for a higher achievement award.
Remember that if your application is based on a formal club or
society Breeder’s Award Program or Aquatic Horticulturalist’s Award
Program, it is a good idea that the Awards Committee have a copy of
same This does not guarantee you an award because each club’s or
society's program is different. But it may help the Awards Committee
in making a better decision.
Open Show Committee
This Committee is responsible for compiling the records from all
inter-club fish shows and determining the winners of the CAOAC
Competition Awards that are presented each year at the CAOAC Annual
Convention. See the “COMPETITION
AWARDS” page.
Like all of us involved
with CAOAC or a local club or society, we are volunteers. These
awards are also administered by volunteers. If you have any
suggestions or additional information that might help your fellow
hobbyist in administering these awards, please contact the President
of CAOAC, the Chairman of the Open Show Committee or the Chairman of
the Awards Committee.
